Official Rules & Entry Formalities
Rules as per Jim Corbett National Park — Forest Department, Uttarakhand
- Each jeep can carry a maximum of 6 adult passengers including the naturalist guide. Overloading is not permitted.
- Advance permit booking is mandatory for core zones (Dhikala, Bijrani, Sona Nadi, Durga Devi). Permits are booked through the official Uttarakhand Forest Department government portal.
- A certified naturalist / forest guide is mandatory for all jeep safaris. The guide will be arranged at the zone gate on the day of the safari.
- Valid ID Proof required: Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, PAN Card, Voter ID Card, or Passport. Foreign nationals must carry their passport.
- Carry the same ID Proof in original that was used during the online permit booking process.
- Dhikala Zone requires a special permit and is accessible only via Dhangari Gate. Overnight stays inside Dhikala are subject to separate forest lodge booking through the forest department.
- Children below 5 years of age are not permitted inside the core zone of the national park as per safety regulations.
- Plastic bags, single-use plastics, loud music, and disturbance to wildlife are strictly prohibited inside all safari zones.
- Visitors must report at the respective zone gate at least 30 minutes before the scheduled safari session start time.
- Photography and videography for personal use are allowed. Commercial shooting requires prior permission from the forest department.
- Feeding wildlife, leaving vehicles during the safari, and straying from designated tracks are strictly prohibited and may result in cancellation of the permit.
6Best Time to Visit for Jeep Safari
Jim Corbett National Park is open to tourists from October to June for most zones. The monsoon months of July, August, and September cause closure of core zones including Dhikala. However, Jhirna and Dhela zones remain open year-round.
- November to February: Cool and pleasant weather. Excellent for bird watching, landscape photography, and comfortable safari sessions. Migratory birds arrive during this period.
- March to May: Warm but the best season for tiger and wildlife sightings. Animals congregate near waterholes and river banks, making sightings more frequent.
- June: Hot weather. Core zones begin closing by mid-June for the monsoon season. Book early if planning a June visit.
